We are very involved in the healthcare sector and have undertaken engineering work for 16 NHS trusts and numerous private health trusts throughout the East of England. In tough and changing times, they appreciates our understanding of their need for cost effective solutions.

Recent projects undertaken for NHS Trusts
  • The installation of replacement steam fed hot water calorifiers within a basement plant room, new plate heat exchangers supplied and installed by adapting the existing steam and condense pipework. In addition, new water booster sets installed in both rooftop and basement plantrooms
  • Supply and installation of 400 kVA attenuated generator, supply cabling to main switchroom, design and installation of new main LV switchboard, essential supplies switchboard, lighting and small power.
  • Removal of existing calorifiers and Installation of Spirax heat exchangers in roof top plant room.
  • Supply and installation of replacement rooftop chiller
  • Replacement of electrical switchgear within the main hospital building

We also maintain on a regular basis generators for several trusts and private providers

DEFENCE Expertise

We at E Rand & Sons Ltd have for many years played our part in helping to ensure that RAF, USAF and Army Air Corps airbases in Eastern England are ready for action.

We have serviced their generators, done electrical work in their control towers, mended their hanger doors, replaced batteries on their UPSs, overhauled their fuel pumps, replaced pipes and cleaned their fuel tanks.We have also undertaken similar work at numerous other MoD facilities, such as army barracks, radar facilities, ranges and workshops.

As the requirements of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and the defence estate change, we are ready to meet the new challenges.

Typical defence projects
  • Supply and installation of 1.4MW standby generator for satellite ground station complete with attenuated containerised enclosure and 40,000 litre fuel storage tank.
  • Supply and installation of 90kVA 400 Hz frequency convertor at an RAF station.
  • Supply and install Sonning Heater flues for two hangers at an operational airfield, including all supporting frames and valves.

Industrial Expertise

E Rand & Sons Ltd rarely undertake work of a domestic nature, preferring to concentrate on industrial and commercial projects. We have amassed considerable experience of a number of industries where quality is critical, like food and agricultural produce processing, pharmaceuticals, chemical processing.
Typical industrial projects
  • Supply and installation of 800amp supply to kiosk housing panel board and distribution to 19 lighting columns and 29 bollard mounted socket outlets for refrigerated trailer park.
  • Design and installation of lighting, power and fire alarm systems in 5,000 sqm building for a national brand poultry processor.
  • Design & build diesel engine emergency drive for KSB emergency boiler feed pump with speed increaser in a sugar factory.
  • Electrical installation for Anaerobic Digestion Plant for an ingredient manufacturer.
  • Supply and installation of 1500kVA HV transformer, LV switch panel, cabling and 1,000 Amp Busbar system for manufacturer of baby products.
  • Supply and installation of replacement stainless steel vessels, flexible and rigid pipework and pneumatically controlled butterfly valves disinfectant plant.

Utilities & Drainage Expertise

E Rand & Sons Ltd have a long and productive relationship with the water companies and internal drainage boards. We are pleased to see this developing with involvement in new technologies such as the introduction of eel friendly pumps, for which we are providing control systems.
Utilities & Drainage projects
  • Design, build, install and commission form 4 control panel to operate 2 No 110kW variable speed drives for Archimedean screw pumps at Bells and Mocketts Pumping Station on the Isle of Sheppey. – the first such installation in the UK.
  • Refurbishment of 4 vertical 24” diameter drainage pumps, installation of replacement engine drives and new control panel for 2 electric pumps, 1 diesel pump and 1 combination diesel electric , common control and telemetry at a Fenland pumping station.
  • Design, build and installation of 6 attenuated air cooled diesel power packs for the operation of the flood defence barriers on Canvey Island for the Environment Agency.
  • Design build and phased installation of 4 replacement high speed diesel engine drives for fenland drainage pumps including all controls and standby generator at the Tydd Pumping Station.
